Sheikh Hasina gets Mother Teresa Award

Kolkata: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister and leader of the opposition party, Awami League Sheikh Hasina will be given the Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award here on Sunday.
"Sheikh Hasina will be given the Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award on June 25. She has confirmed participation at the function," Mother Teresa International and Millenium Award Committee (MTIMAC) chairman Arun Biswas said on Wednesday.
The Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner's office said that Hasina would arrive here on Saturday and leave on Monday.
Veteran Bollywood actor Dev Anand, also being given the Mother Teresa Lifetime Acheivement Award, is likely to attend the function, Biswas said.
Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, actors Madhavi Chakraborty and Sabitri Chatterjee, singers Arati Mukherjee and Haimanti Shukla, Calcutta University Vice-Chancellor Ashish Banerjee have also been selected for the Mother Teresa Millennium Awards.
Dismissing reports that the awards would be given away by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, he said it would be conferred either by Church of North India's Bishop of Kolkata Reverend P S P Raju or the Roman Catholic Church's Vicar-General of the Kolkata Archdiocese Fr Michael Baaju, both of whom would be present at the function.
The MTIMAC is part of the West Bengal Minority and Weaker Sections Council, a secular forum established in 1986 among others by former West Bengal Chief Minister Prafulla Chandra Sen and Roman Catholic Bishop Lineus Gomes.
