She's a mother to 33 abandoned kids

New Delhi: Stories of mothers giving up everything for their children is quite common. On this mother's day we bring you this very special story of a mother who has, believe it or not, 33 children.

Meet Anjina Rajagopal who is no ordinary mother. She takes care of abandoned kids at her orphanage centre, which provides shelter and education to over 33 children.

On a fateful day in 1990 Anjina Rajagopal stumbled upon a child being thrashed ruthlessly by a fruit vendor. Anjina rescued the child and brought him home. She then realised it’s a cause worth fighting for.

“Since childhood, I used to see kids begging and would feel terrible about them. So when I saw a child being beaten up I stopped and got him home. There are several kids that I’m helping and I feel happy about it,” says Anjina Rajagopal who runs an organisation called Saikripa that renders shelter to homeless kids.

It all happened in the spur of the moment that day and unknowingly Anjina became mother. Anjina says she feels like she is the mother of these 33 kids. They treat her more lovingly like she’s their real mom. When asked if she regrets not being married and not having her own kids she said, “I think it's the same the children who love me as much I love them and it's all the same as having my own child.”

Love is what matters in the end. It's the kind of love that all mothers long for but then not every mother can be as fortunate as Anjina.
