New Delhi: Shooter Gagan Narang has equalled the world record in prone at the 39th Grand Prix of Liberation in Pilzen, Czech Republic. Narang shot a perfect 600/600 in the qualifying stage.
Narang will be shooting the prone event at the Beijing Olympics and it is a huge boost for the shooter.
Narang did not have a good final, though, and managed an aggregate of 699.8, which saw him settle for the bronze medal.
He had recently won the bronze medal in the 10-metre air rifle event at the World Cup in Beijing, the same venue where the Olympic shooting competition will take place.
Even though the Indian shooter equalled the world record score, it might not be officially considered for record purposes, as the Grand Prix is not part of the International Shooting Sport Federation, the sport’s world governing body.
Gonci Jozef of Slovakia won the gold medal with 702.0 points (599+103) while Jazdzewski Jaroslaw of Poland clinched the bronze with 702.0 points (599+103).
In the men’s air pistol event, Samaresh Jung shot 674.6 points (579+95.6) to finish eighth.
