REALITY BITES: Shinjini's parents alleged she slipped into depression and was paralysed after she was rebuked by a judge.
Bangalore: Shinjini Sengupta, the 16-year-old who was paralysed after apparently being rebuked by a reality show judge, is responding to stimuli.
Hospital sources add that Shinjini has begun recognising her visitors as well.
Earlier on Tuesday, the producer of the show on which Shinjini was a contestant - Kaustuv Ray - and judge Ringo met her at the hosiptal in Bangalore. The producers have promised to bear the cost of her treatment.
However, they blame her parents for pressuring Shinjini into participating in the contest. It's now emerged that Shinjini had been to Hyderabad six months ago for treatment of a neurological disorder. Doctors there had advised her to avoid strenuous activities, and certainly stay away from TV shows.
However, Kaustuv Ray maintained that her parents should have been more careful
"We are not responsible for this, as the parents should be more cautious of their child," Ray said.
Ringo added, "Her father apologised for this incident and we made our stand very clear to him."
Lok Sabha Member from Jadhavpur, Shujan Chakroborthy - who went to meet Shinjini at the hospital said, "I spoke to Shrinjini and now she has recovered to an extent that she even replied back to me. It seems she is recovering."
Last Saturday, Shinjini's case provoked a big debate after her parents alleged that the girl slipped into depression and was paralysed after she was rebuked by a judge of an E-TV Bangla reality dance show.
