New York: Acclaimed Hollywood film maker M Night Shyamalan, is known for his block busters like The Sixth Sense and The Village. But at a special event organised by American Express at the Tribeca Film Festival, for children from the Tribeca area, he chose another format.
Shyamalan read from the children's book Lady in the Water, which will be released along with the film in late July.
The book evolved from a tale he told his own children, when they had asked him to tell them a story at the breakfast table one morning. He looked out at their swimming pool and thought, what if there was a nymph living in there. This little thought began the whole affair.
“For me, the best stories are ones that might be true, right on the edge of being true. What's in your backyard? So really, this story is that. It's about who lives under your swimming pool,” Shyamalan said.
This is Shyamalan's first foray into the world of books, even though he has addressed children as an audience earlier by scripting the movie Stuart Little. However, the film Lady in the Water, will be another story since it will appeal to the older audience too.
