New York: India's 'Night' in shining armour in Hollywood, Manoj Night Shyamalan has now spun a bedtime story into a film — Lady in the Water.
Imagine yourself to be a character in a spooky bedtime story, and the ending, sad or happy, depends on your actions. Well, that's Lady in the Water, Shyamalan’s latest thriller.
The premier of the film this Monday saw the cast walking a blue carpet at the National History Museum in New York.
An out and out fantasy, Lady in the Water comes from a bedtime story Shyamalan told his children.
"I guess probably a month after I told it to them and it stuck in the house and they were still talking about it and still asking questions about it. They were still obsessed with it. They were riding to school and still asking questions about it. I loved it too," Shyamalan said.
For Shyamalan, home is where the idea came from this time.
"I started thinking about it and it just became a natural thing, hey why not just do it differently this time and just make a movie from something I didn't think was going to be a movie. Just something from our house and take it and tell the world about it."
The plot revolves around Story, a lost and lonely water nymph, played by Bryce Howard who is trying to find her way back to her world.
Hiding from evil creatures out to destroy her, Story is rescued by a building manager played by Paul Giamatti who rallies the building residents' support to save her.
So, get ready for Shyamalan’s ‘story’, Lady in the Water which is set to hit theatres in India on July 28th.
