New Delhi: The world’s biggest car maker, General Motors, a Foreign direct investor in India, has called the Singur deadlock unfortunate but says that India remains a good market.

President and COO, GM Corporation, Frederick A Henderson was at the convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Thursday.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, while at the Delhi convention, Henderson said, “It is unfortunate what is happening there (in Singur). But I am not in any position to comment on it. I can just talk about General motors. If we look at some of the investments we have made in India in 2008…our assembly plant in Talegaon, our technical centre in Bangalore, we’ve been pleased with support we have gotten from the government. We are very pleased with quality of the workforce too. You are aware, we have invested a billion dollars in India and we believe it is a good investment and we are quite pleased to be here.”

The General Motors (GM) Corporation, has only on Tuesday inaugurated its second vehicle manufacturing facility at Talegaon in Maharashtra.

GM, the U.S.-headquartered auto major plans to make over a two-fold increase in its production capacity in India to 2.25-lakh units.

The Talegaon plant is spread over 120-hectare and has new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.

With an investment of over $300 million, the facility will employ more than 1,000 workers to manufacture its compact car Chevrolet Spark.

GM had signed an agreement with the Government of Maharashtra for the construction of the facility in August 2006 and the pilot production of vehicles began early this year.
