SP MLAs find novel way to protest, release balloons

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) MLAs in Uttar Pradesh found a rather unique way to protest against the Mayawati government.

UP Governor TV Rajeshwar had just begun addressing the joint session of the house when UP Assembly witnessed an unusual incident.

Demanding a debate on Bundelkhand issue and inquiry into Saifai firing, the SP MLAs rushed to the well of the house.

Every one including the Governor, Speaker Sukhdev Rajbhar and Mayawati were shocked when the SP MLAs started releasing black coloured gas balloons inside the Assembly hall.

And the SP justified its manner of protest.

"Agar virodh kale rang se nahin hoga to kaya. Yeh koi Valentine Day ke nahin tha(If protest is not done by back color..then with what…this is not a Valentine Day)," Ambika Chowdhary, Senior SP leader, said.

While SP drew a lot of media attention by releasing black balloons, Mayawati was not amused.

The Speaker adjourned the Assembly session still Tuesday and immediately directed Home Secretary to conduct an inquiry into the black balloon incident.

"Yeh gas filled balloons dangerous ho sakte the (These were gas filled balloons could have been dangerous," Sukhdev Rajbhar said.

Instructions have also been issued for a proper frisking of the MLAs before they enter the Assembly hall.

UP assembly had witnessed unprecedented violence during the regime of Kalyan Singh Government in 1997 and now 11 years later it seems the SP MLAs have found a new way to protest inside the Assembly in a peaceful manner.

But Mayawati, clearly, is not amused.
