Mumbai: The Indian Premier League, which starts from April 18, is gaining momentum rapidly with sources telling CNN-IBN that Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan and a group of industrialists are bidding for a franchise in the league.
Shah Rukh's company Red Chilly has paid the guarantee amount of $5 million mandatory before filing the tender.
Other big names who are interested in the IPL teams include the Ambani brothers, Vijay Mallya and another Bollywood star Preity Zinta.
The final announcement is expected on January 24 in Mumbai. The IPL bids open on Thursday and the base amount is set at $50 million.
According to some reports the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to pay Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar along with some other senior cricketers 10-15 per cent more money than the highest auctioned player of the IPL.
The BCCI has short listed five cricketers - Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dravid, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh - who will be called 'icon players' and will be the highest paid players in the IPL, which will be in a Twenty20 format.
They will not be auctioned if they have a city team.
