Pune: Even as Tibet rages with protests against Chinese aggression, a few students in Pune are bringing the two communities together.
Tsewang is a Tibetan student in Pune and he is anxious about the situation back home but his friends here are making sure he feels safe. For the past one year he has been sharing a rented apartment in Pune University with his Chinese friends. Xue Shan shares with Tsewang news from China and she tells him how Olympics have improved the country's infrastructure and outlook. She hopes this might make him feel better.
"Beijing will hold Olympics and a lot of people are very happy. They go to the street and the squares and the place is full of people,” says Chinese student, Xue Shan.
And though Tsewang feels happy surrounded by caring friends, the troubling pictures coming from Tibet make him feel uneasy. Tsewang hopes to return to Tibet to work after completing his education in India. He also hopes to take with him lessons of humanity and friendship.
"We are students we don't want to be thinking about political issues. We are in India and we are staying together so we should protect each other,” says Tibetan student, Tsewang.
These students have been living away from home but like a family. At a time when both Tibet and China are fighting a bitter war, they are the perfect example of living in harmony and peace.
