New Delhi: The Pakistan government had said that former prime minister Benazir Bhutto died of skull-fracture after she hit her head against the sunroof lever of her vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser.

But now Toyota officials in Islamabad, say that Benazir could not have been fatally injured even if her head hit the sunroof lever of the car.

The official speaking on conditions of anonymity said that since the lever was installed inside the vehicle and was at lead six centimetres from the edge of the sunroof, it could not have caused the head injury.

The official further added the company is convinced that the lever could not be the reason. However they are still looking for more details.

Earlier on Saturday, the government spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema had said that Bhutto was killed after she hit her head against the sunroof lever of her Toyota Land Cruiser.

However, Cheema claimed that neither the bullets nor shrapnel from the explosion hit the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader.

Cheema also said that Bhutto had stood up from the sunroof to wave to her supporters and dashed her head on the lever when she tried to duck after hearing the gunshots.

Cheema had justified his claim by saying that there was blood on the lever.

PPP leaders have ridiculed Cheema's assertion, saying that many of Bhutto's associates saw the bullet wounds on her.
