Agra: The Taj city and neighbouring districts have been put on high alert following serial blasts in Jaipur. Hoteliers in Agra said on Wednesday the blasts in Jaipur have sent shock waves down the city and there were fears of large scale cancellation of bookings.

Rakesh Chauhan, president of the Hotels and Restaurants Association, said: "Tourism in the Golden Triangle popular (tourist circuit comprising Delhi, Agra and Jaipur) were in for some shocks in this already lean season. Jaipur and other Rajasthan districts are generally peaceful and provide a great ambience for tourism promotion. But after Tuesday night's serial blasts foreign tourists are bound to feel a little insecure and this could lead to a setback in the numbers."

Tourism industry is highly sensitive and susceptible to the general state of law and order, said several tourist guides who feared loss of their business and condemned such bombings in the strongest terms.

In Agra, security has been beefed up. All hotels, bus stands and railway stations were screened late Tuesday night. Senior superintendent of police Mohit Agarwal said the vehicles were checked at all the important road crossings and greater vigil was being exercised.
