New Delhi: A teenager slipped into depression and rendered paralysed taking part in a reality TV show.
Sixteen-year-old Shinjini, who hails from Kolkata, had taken part in a popular dance competition aired on a Bengali TV channel. One of the show’s judges rebuked her ‘poor performance.’
Unable to cope with the humiliation, Shinjini failed to recover from the shock. She was admitted to Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) on June 11 but was discharged.
However, she was soon readmitted for anti-psyche treatment on June 23 after she started finding difficulty in identifying people and understanding instructions. Soon after, she lost her ability to speak.
After all the treatment in Kolkata failed, Shinjini was flown to NIMHANS in Banglaore on Friday.
So far the doctors have been unable to diagnose her illness.
Until a month back, the Class XI student used to dance and act in tele-serials. Shinjini had also appeared in a Bengali film.
Reportedly, the producer of the show has offered Rs 1 lakh as compensation. He insists that the judge’s rebuke was not meant to humiliate or discourage Shinjini.
