New Delhi: There's worrying news for citizens of Delhi ahead of the Christmas and New Year season.

The Intelligence Bureau has warned that the national Capital may witness terror attacks within the next two weeks. And in a bid to catch the security apparatus off-guard, the attacks may be carried out after the festival season.

"Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal received the input from the IB that there is a possibility of a terror strike in the Capital within two weeks time," a senior police official was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.

Terror outfits Lashkar-e-Toiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad and the Harkat-ul-Jehadi-Islami have reportedly joined hands with local extremist organisations to carry out the strike.

Markets and other public places — such as malls, railway stations, Delhi Metro and bus stands — are the most likely targets.

Fifty-nine people had been killed when three bombs ripped through the heart of the Capital on 29 October 2005, just days ahead of Diwali. At that time the main targets were the Sarojini Nagar and Paharganj markets.

The Delhi Police says it is gearing up to deal with the threat. Bomb Disposal Squads and quick reaction teams have been put on the alert. Extra battalions of local police and dog squads will be deployed at important places.

Meanwhile, vigil has also been increased on Delhi's entry points, with Delhi Police officials maintaining a close coordination with their counterparts of neighbouring states.

To pre-empt any possible attack, a close watch is being kept at cyber cafes and their owners have been asked to maintain a list of their customers along with server logs.

Dealers providing mobile phone connections have also been asked to maintain a list of their customers, according to PTI.
