Jaipur: The popular tourist lanes and bazaars in the walled city of Jaipur were empty 36 hours after the blasts on Tuesday.

Jaipur is dependent on tourism and its visitors like Kate and Sandy who arrived in the city from Varanasi on Wednesday. The friends have travelled all the way from New Zealand and are determined not to let the blasts spoil their journey.

“Terrorist attacks can happen anywhere and you can be mowed down by a car,” says Kate.

“It's disappointing that we will not be able to see some of the good places or shop here but we still try and enjoy,” says Sandy.

Kate and Sandy are among the 500 odd tourists who have decided to stay put in Jaipur. Local tour operators see this as good sign.

“Foreign tour operators are in a wait-and-watch mood. They have not done any cancellations till no, so if nothing happens in the next week or so everything will be back to normal,” says Kuldeep Singh, former president of Rajasthan Tour Operators Association.

Along with Agra and Delhi, Jaipur forms north India's Golden Triangle of tourist destinations. The city hopes it terrorism won’t spoil that status.
