Raja I totally agree with Radhika. First we need to stop things which is in our control, People of India, shutdown all the industries or move them away from the banks of Ganga. Secondly now the whole world is facing the global warming, due to various contries, we public has to force our government to make our voices heard to the countries which are polluting this world most.

Radhika I think its about time we stopped blaming the government for all our woes. In addition to lack of political will, its the public apathy which is responsible for so many of our problems. We have been witnesses to events in the past that reinforce the power of public opinion(Verdicts in Jessica Lal and Priyadarshini Mattoo Cases). Its about time we stopped expecting anything from the government and started taking initiatives on our own.

Mansi singh Ganga is dying from pollution and shrinkage of gangotri glacier and our ignorance.Ganga Action plan has totally failed.Framing of government policy or giving it to private players won't help much. Government has failed because we as citizen have never questioned them on environment. The parties don't have the issue of environment on thier agenda when they contest election. And only 10% of the educated people go to vote. About 90% who vote have no idea about environment. only our will power to have the Ganga forever will make a difference. NGO'S can play a role by creating awareness among the people about environment and the river .
We are a developing nation . Only 2% of gdp is invested in research and development. Government should invest in R&D to develop environment friendly technology. It will help control pollution .It will also reduce impact on Gangotri glacier.
The affluents draining into the ganga from the Industeries should be monitored strictly . Government should also regulate the number of industries and the amount of affluent they produce.New industry should not be allowed to establish on the bank.

Hope we are able to find the solution to save Ganga.

manoj The indian govt needs to open its eyes to the real issues confronting our people and country. In the name of development, the govt is creating a mess especially with no real environment protection laws in place. The govt needs to punish industries that dump effluents into our holy river. Today its the ganges, tomorrow it will be the case with all rivers in our country. What i dont understand is why has'nt the Indian govt ever tried to implement water treatment plants on a large scale and other environment protection methods like garbage recycling plants? Surely the time to act is now. Our country's leading news channels should bring up such issues to light and keep pushing our govt to take some initiatives.

Daljit Singh It is commendable that such a burning issue has been highlighted. It need to be followed by a comprensive loss to the people say after ten years or 25years,from the source to the point where it enters Bangladesh. This will be a real service to the people of India.
All other rivers emanating from the glaciars,be also investigated.

Daljit Singh Indian sources, have been plundered by the foreigners and now Indians are destroying it.Make every-body pay dearly for polluting the river, that is the only way.Start with fines according to the level of pollution contributed by the indutries, with time limit.Say after every, one month, double the fine if the prescribed, systems by the said industry is not installed.Patrol police should be deputed to charge and claim from the usual or sundry contributor of pollution.
It is natural that such system, cannot be maintained by the state or central pollution boards. The interference of the politicians in such matters be eliminated and such work to be handled by private contractors, only. The rider for them, to be watched by independent agencies for their dereliction and cancellation of the contract to be taken over by the next contractor within a week.
Ganga must be protected for its cultural and more so for the drinking needs of the people downstream

raj yashwant the best way to save River Ganga is to privatize it. Since governmnet in inefficient in maintaining or enforcing regulation and the agents of government are well off by taking bribes from parties which pollute the river, the only solution to prevent pollution in the river is to privatize the river so that it can be effectively managed.

The company formed will charge people for using the water from the river and a low rate, similarly will charge companies for throwing waste into the river. This organization will have inherent incentive in keeping the river unpolluted in order that it increase the revenue. The company will seriously campaign for preservation of the river, since the river is necessary for its sustenance.

The river will be become clean, government will make money, people will get good water. Everybody will be happy.
