The great DU rush begins on Thursday
New Delhi: With over 5,000 students scoring more than 90 per cent in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exams this year, exhilaration was the flavour of the season.
But the real test begins now as the struggle for a coveted Delhi University (DU) seat begins on Thursday.
"There is going to be disappointment among students when they land up in colleges and realise even 90 per cent is of no use. This kind of situation is detrimental to the interest of students and education," Principal, St Stephens, Dr Anil Wilson said.
More than 3.5 lakh students passed their CBSE class XII exams this year.
Another 40,000 cleared the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) Board exams.

However, not all of them will make a beeline for Delhi University. Experts say the number of students applying for a DU seat will be much more than the 43,000 seats available.
"Increasing the number of seats is not an option at all. There are various other logistical problems, which are involved. Increasing the number of institutions is important," Dr Wilson explained.
Come Thursday, and the empty corridors of DU colleges will be bustling with activity.
However, those who cannot make it to DU should not lose heart as options like Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Milia Islamia are also available in the Capital.
