Mumbai: It’s perhaps Mira Nair's way of celebrating the critical success her film, The Namesake has received in the West.

The film, adapted from Jhumpa Lahiri's book of the same name, has got rave reviews overseas which is what inspired the filmmaker to write a book The Namesake - A portrait of the film.

For the book launch Mira turned up with her screenplay writer friend Sooni Taraporevala and the leading man from the The Namesake, Irfan Khan.

"It’s a book about that photographs that inspired the film – modern Indian photographers like Raghu Rai, Dayanita Singh. It’s their images, images from the film and also two original essays that Jhumpa Lahiri wrote about making the novel into film,” says Mira Nair.

Irfan Khan says, "Mira didn’t try to copy the book. The fun in adapting from a book is when the filmmaker maintains her individuality in the film.”

Till then watch out for The Namesake that hits theatres this weekend.
