New Delhi: The creator of the wizard hero, Harry Potter, author J K Rowling has disclosed her not so magical past. She says that she developed suicidal thoughts as a struggling single mother.

Rowling had earlier spoken about how she suffered depression after breaking off with her first husband, Jorge Arantes, a Portuguese journalist.

However, she was helped by timely counselling.

Rowling is amongst the world's richest persons with an estimated personal wealth of £545 million earned on the back of the phenomenal success of the Potter series.

The fifth film in the series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoneix released last year in July. The same month, the last and the final book in the seven-part series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows also hit the stands.

The first four films made on the series have grossed over $3.5 billion worldwide. And all this has made author J K Rowling the first person to become a US dollar billionaire by writing books.
