Mumbai: Meet Honey and Sarah. These dogs work just as hard as anyone one of us for a living. But their's is certainly not a dog's life for these furry friends can brighten up a life.

These canine companions are trained to perform simple commands, which go a long way in making life a bit easier for the disabled.

Says animal behaviour specialist at Canines Can Care, Shirin Merchant, "If a paraplegic drops something, they cannot bend down and pick it up. These are some things that we take for granted. They have to constantly ask for help and doing so can lead to losing self confidence. A dog will happily pick up a pen a 100 times a day with a wagging tail, and these trained ones can also help open doors and do other things giving the person a whole new meaning of life."

Sanam Rabadi got more than just a whole new meaning of life, who was paralysed and orphaned in an accident ten years ago.

However, she is now leading an independent life with a little help from her pets Magic and Lyka.

Magic's simple tasks have worked wonders for her confidence. His watchful eye and loyal support have done much to raise Sanam's self confidence.

"The main thing is the friendship. The other night I was alone and I called him because my pillow had fallen and he got it for me," says she.

Every dog has its day and these canine companions come have a calling in life - making someone's life better.
