BAD BOY: Harbhajan's track record is littered with fines and visits to the match referees.
New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has threatened to impose a life ban on Harbhajan Singh if there is any more instance of misconduct.
Harbhajan's track record in international cricket is littered with fines and visits to the match referees.
The first incident was against Australia early on in his career during a One-Day International in Sharjah in 1998. There was an offensive gesture and abuse directed towards Ricky Ponting, which resulted in 50 per cent of his match fee being docked. Ponting, too, was fined by the match referee.
Then there was dissent and intimidation of the umpire in Port Elizabeth in 2001-2002 which saw Harbhajan lose 75 per cent of his match fee and also get a one-Test ban.
Next season he was rapped on the knuckles again. This time it was for using foul language against the umpire in a match against South Africa at Dhaka. Again 50 per cent of his match fee was docked.
South Africa were at the receiving end again in 2005 after Harbhajan gestured towards the pavilion after sending back Ashwell Prince in an ODI played at Hyderabad.
He was penalised 25 per cent of his match fee.
And then there was the alleged racial abuse of Andrew Symonds earlier in 2008 in Sydney. Harbhajan was cleared by an International Cricket Council Appeals Commissioner of the racial abuse charge and the three-Test ban lifted.
He was fined 50 per cent of his match fee for using obscene language.
