New Delhi: As per the Supreme Court's order, MCD's sealing drive is set to begin on November 1. However, with protests on sealing peaking in the Capital, the Government is desperately trying to get its act together.

In a crucial meeting held by the Group of Ministers (GoM), it was decided that the Delhi Master Plan 2021 will be finalised by January next year. It was also decided that the Centre will approach the Supreme Court on this issue once again.

"Those who have got relief from the Supreme Court or from the Government's earlier notifications should be spared from sealing," says Union Minister for Urban Development, S Jaipal Reddy.

But the date of the meeting has not been fixed yet. The MCD and the Delhi government had approached the Supreme Court monitoring committee earlier and pointed out how the situation may get out of control if the sealing drive is resumed.

"The atmosphere is tense and people are apprehensive. There is quite a bit of politicisation going on as well. We are keeping this in mind when tackling the issue," says Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dixit.

Traders met Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday, pressing for a constitutional amendment which would legalise business setups established before December 31, 2005.

They have called a three-day bandh starting from Monday, which might get extended indefinitely if their demands are not met. The Delhi government plans to move a resolution in the Assembly on the same day seeking a ban on sealing.
