The ignorance of people regarding Gandhi is simply amazing! Allow me to quote Ghandhi "Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the Act depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest." - He was against Gun control laws imposed by the British!!
Gandhi advocated non-violence but DID NOT preach cowardice, I quote "I do believe that, where there is only a choice between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence... I would rather have India resort to arms in order to defend her honour than that she should, in a cowardly manner, become or remain a helpless witness to her own dishonor." Gandhi goes on further to state "But I believe that nonviolence is infinitely superior to violence, forgiveness is more manly than punishment. Forgiveness adorns a soldier...But abstinence is forgiveness only when there is the power to punish; it is meaningless when it pretends to proceed from a helpless creature....".
Right to life is a basic human right, but it is meaningless if I'm denied the means to defend myself with! This is about civil rights - Gandhi understood this... DO YOU??!!

It’s a matter of simple game theory, with more arms in the hands of law abiding citizens the criminals are out of luck. No sane burglar or thieve will risk their life when there are easier areas to operate. If the law enforcement agencies or government are impotent, or can’t protect their citizens each and every person has the right to defend themselves, their family or property by all possible means. Yes, that includes the use of deadly force!
Guns are not bad or evil, they are a tool to defend basic democratic and civil rights, topple tyrannies, save lives or fight crime. Criminals are already armed to their teeth’s. Kind words, prayers or restrictions for law abiding people won’t solve the problem.

We have so many communal riots in a few states...I'm sure if the mob knows that the people they attack will have guns they will think twice before they set people on fire with rubber tyres!

I accept their arguments. If it made that anybody can get a weapon it would give wrong signal to the culprits. But for the sake of people public should be allowed to have weapons but administrators should make some new policy on this

Gun culture shd never be encouraged. This is too bad - definitely not in the land of Gandhi. When munnabhai is turning to Gandhigiri, whats the problem with you folks (punks)? :)
what if being mugged, assaulted? Lets strengthen the law and order situation and not give a chance for these to happen at first place.
Solving one problem should not create 100 more problems which is precisely what will happen with guns.

Deepak, I'm not against a better law and order situaution. But even if I had a detail of black cats (NSGs) protecting me, I'd hate to depend on them to protect me. Can you drive? If yes, then by your argument that someone else can do it for us, you wasted your time. Again, I feel that some people resort to violence and crime not because of need but because of greed. That, my friend, is something none of us can hope to prevent - a quirk of human nature.

Brother, have you ever been mugged ? Most probably not...so it is easier to write what you have written, and you don't know the pain and shame associated with it. With the kind of police structure Delhi has, I doubt anyone will even listen to your claim of having been mugged. I think it is you life and property and the onus to save it is also entirely yours !!

I am sure everyone here will appreciate INDIAN shooters winning medals for India. Dont you think we owe to provide them with better guns and more facilities. And why does just the thought of relaxed firearms laws bring voilence in our minds, are we that sick. Guys you will be surprised that in India even import of airguns are restricted. While the same can be bought for few hundred rupees at any toy shop. Yes, firearms should be issued after proper scrutiny.

It's no surprise to hear the figure of 40mn for guns in India. The fact is that a gun is easily available in the black market. It is another fallout of increasing corruption in the law enforcement and political cirlces. It's coz of failure of law and order control in the country. The general tendency to use weapons to settle scores & commit crimes has led to a the increasing violent crime rate in the country. It's high time that govt comes up with stricter controls& proper monitoring to check arms proliferation & trafficking so that people can live peacefully in the land where panchsheel was born. It shud create a better law & order situation in the country so that people have a sense of security & need not go for weapons to get justice.

Dear RamKumar, dont you think those with criminal minds will procure guns even with more stricter gun laws. They are illlegally made and procured. But what we are taking of is licenced firearms. If you are willing we would be obliged to host you with our faimly and friends and try to give you of the feel of the fun of shooting sports. I am sure you will have a different set of mind.
If you are taking of illegal firearms I am also against it. But why airguns and very small caliber guns.
