Mumbai: On playlist this week, while singer Lily Allen's album brings you the purest of pop, the soundtrack of Omkara is lush with rustic charm.
In Lily Allen, we have a gem. Her debut album, some of the best pure pop we have heard all year, is called Alright, Still.
Artist: Lily Allen
Album: Alright, Still
Lily Allen's story is the dream that millions of musicians hope for — after posting her demo online, she was picked by a record label, offered a deal and history was made.

Though her roots are rather underground, her music is not. Her new album is full of sparkly hook filled tunes, and it becomes obvious right from the first track.
It seems that reggae, dub and ska are her main musical motivations, a theme that continues through the entire album.
Lily has a very nasty, funny streak running through her lyrics, which sounds a little incongruous, given her sweet, little girl voice. Go out and buy this one.
Album: Omkara, OST
Given that Omkara is Vishal Bhardwaj's take on Othello set in rural, cow-belt India, the music, is appropriately as rough and dusty as the geography.

Right from the title song, sung by a rather drunk-sounding Sukhwinder Singh, this is an album that takes to you the location, and creates a landscape in your mind.
Other standout tracks include the Sunidhi Chauhan's sung Nautanki Beedi, and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's Naina Thag Lenge.
Though it might be hard to follow some of the distinctly Hindustani lyrics, the music just flows.
