Shirahama(Japan): A first one of its kind, a giant panda born and brought up in Japan has given birth to twin cubs. The 8-year-old giant panda Rauhin gave birth to the cubs on camera at a zoo in Shirahama city in Western Japan.

The mother and kids are doing fine; the zoo will closely monitor their mental and physical health before introducing them to the public. This is the first case in Japan that a Japanese-born panda has successfully given birth through natural cross-breeding.

Since her delivery, Rauhin has been feeding breast milk to her newly-born daughter and son every two hours.

Adventure world zoo has been receiving calls from thrilled locals inquiring about the baby pandas, but zoo officials say they are extra cautious and will take special care of the health and safety of the new stars.

It was just last month that Japan lost a giant panda baby three days after it was born at a zoo in Kobe, Japan.

The baby was born through artificial insemination, which was Japan's first such case in nearly 20 years.

Adventure World zoo in Wakayama says they will closely watch the mother's health and mental condition and decide when to openly introduce the babies to the public.

According to the zoo, 32 giant pandas have been raised across seven nations including China, which is currently the leader in panda breeding.
