BOTTLED TRUTH: Bottles in which inflammable material was stored were bought from Indore.
Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Indore connection to the Samjhauta blasts has been confirmed by the police and the first two arrests in the case were made on Wednesday.
One of the suspects who was arrested from Indore is the owner of a shop from where the suitcases in which the bombs were kept were bought while the other person is the shopkeeper’s assistant.
News agency PTI identified the two suspects as Huzaifa of Abhinandan Bag Centre and shop manager Poonam Singh Thakur. Both have been taken to Panipat after seeking permission of the court for further probe.
“Panipat police is investigating the case but we have provided all assistance to them. The two suspects who were arrested today have been taken to Panipat,” Superintendent of Police, Indore, Anshuman Yadav informed.
The owner of the shop is in police custody and could prove helpful in identifying the terrorists behind the blasts. Police have also discovered that the covers for the briefcases were stitched just four shops away.
Just about 100 meters away from the shop is another shop from where the bottle was purchased which contained inflammable material for the blasts.
Meanwhile, sources have told that the briefcase in which the bombs were kept and the bottle in which explosives were stored, was purchased from the Khatipura area of Indore.
Investigators are also looking into claims that Mohammad Usman, one of the passengers in the ill-fated train, was seen in Ujjain, which is near Indore, a few days before the blasts.
Usman, a Karachi resident, was later made a witness by the police but residents of Ujjain have identified Usman through photos published in the media.
Residents of Ujjain say that they saw him many times in the area. “He used to come here frequently and stay for four-five days,” a resident of Ujjain’s Maksi Road said.
There are still some loose ends left in the case but a special investigation team from Haryana has confirmed that Indore is a vital link in cracking the investigations.
