London: “It’s about time that we give up our lives and families for the sake of Islam, to please Allah.” India-born terrorist Kafeel Ahmed wrote that in an e-mail to his younger brother Sabeel two days before he rammed a jeep into Glasgow’s airport last year.

Sabeel, who was on Friday sentenced to 18 months in prison for withholding information about the terrorist attack, has pleaded guilty to receiving the e-mail about terrorist attack but says he did not read it until the evening after the attack took place.

''This is the project that I was working on for some time now. Everything else was a lie,'' Kafeel wrote in the e-mail. ''It's about time that we give up our lives and our families for the sake of Islam to please Allah.''

“After much deliberation I have decided to write this message so that you are prepared to take the knock-on effects of my actions. My sincere request that you do the following:

“Pray to Allah for acceptance of my deeds. Pray to Allah to give you calm and composure and strength (for you will need this). Do not inform any one about me or my deed—and I mean anyone,” he said in the e-mail.

An explosive-laden jeep was halted only yards from airline passengers at Glasgow airport on June 30, 2007, when Kafeel and another man attempted an attack as part of a botched plot to bomb a London nightclub and the Glasgow airport. Kafeel later died from severe burns.

As Sabeel has already served half his sentence and agreed to leave Britain, he was being released late Friday from jail to be deported back to India, said the court in London which convicted him.

Sabeel's mother Zakira Ahmed maintains that her son is innocent. "I have always said Sabeel, my son, is innocent. I still say he is innocent. I don't know the legal aspect of this case but I feel that he is innocent. I just want my son to be back," she said.
