Birmingham: UK Police have charged a 24-year-old man from Hyderabad with murdering Indian medical student Vempala Samrajya Jyothirmayee.
Reports say he shared the apartment with her and may have inflicted injuries on self to mislead the police.
Police in Birmingham have confirmed that the 23-year-old student found dead on Tuesday is in fact Jyothirmayee, from Andhra Pradesh.
The student from the University of Wolverhampton died of head injuries and a 24-year-old Indian national has been charged with her murder.
According to some eyewitness accounts, Jyothirmayee was perhaps a victim of a quarrel, which took place inside her flat.
A local mechanic, Lal Miah, lives a door away from Flat No 6 that Jyotirmayee supposedly shared with three other flatmates. He recollects what he heard that fateful Tuesday.
"We saw no one entering or leaving the house. My niece hear loud noises from next door," Miah says.
The murder has shaken the neighbourhood of Handsworth. Although Handsworth has a history of drug and gun crime, local councillor Gurdial Singh Atwal believes that the area has changed over the years into a peaceful neighbourhood.
This murder, he says, is tragic but a rare incident.
Most of the people are living in harmony in the area," Atwal
Forensic detectives are still scanning the apartment for any clues that would reveal the whole truth and what exactly happened on Tuesday afternoon in the flat?
At the university where Jyotirmayee studied, a condolence meeting will be held on Friday.
