Ujjain: Expelled BJP leader Uma Bharti on Sunday launched a new political party, named the Bhartiya Janashakti Party, with herself as its President.
While erstwhile BJP leader Sanghpriya Gautam would be the party's new national Vice-President, Raghunandan Sharma was named as the all India General Secretary and Anita Singh the treasurer.
Bharti also unveiled a party flag which is saffron in colour with a golden border and has the picture of a sun.
Bharati revealed the party's name and unveiled the party flag after seeking the blessings of Mahakal, the ruling deity of Ujjain on the banks of Shipra River in presence of over hundred founder members.
The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister, who had deferred her plans to announce the party three months ago at Ayodhya, said she would adhere to the five principles -- Swabhiman, Suraksha, Swadeshi, Shuchita and Suraj.
The Congress said the Bhartiya Janashakti Party launched by Uma Bharti would be a new factor in Madhya Pradesh politics and would be 'more damaging' to the BJP.
"Uma Bharti of course is a new factor in Madhya Pradesh politics. There is no doubt about it. She will be more damaging to BJP," HRD Minister Arjun Singh said.
A former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Singh said his party would be able to challenge her as she called herself a BJP number two.
