TAKING PRECAUTION: Sacks containing Ammonium Nitrate, Magnesium and wires have been recovered.
New Delhi: Allahabad police seized a cache of explosive material on Monday in the city’s Shankargarh area.
Sacks containing Ammonium Nitrate and Magnesium wires were recovered and the man who was found in possession of this material has been detained by the police.
The man claimed this is not the first time he has made the delivery and revealed that three such consignments have been brought into the city this month.
"My employer told me to deliver all this sack. I have made three such deliveries but I did not know what was in the sacks until now. And now I have been detained," Rajesh Kumar, the man detained by the police, said.
Police are investigating whether the material is being used for illegal mining and quarrying activities, or are part of terror plot.
The incident comes at a time when the terror investigations are focusing on eastern Uttar Pradesh and police are rounding up suspects in the nearby areas of Mirzapur and Ghurpur.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Allahabad, Lalji Shukla said they are investigating the matter.
"On the pretext of mining and stone quarrying bomb material is being brought. We are investigating the matter," Shulka said.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh police, too, recovered 300 kg of Ammonium Nitrate during a regular patrol in Janeh in Rewa district.
The consignment was being transferred from one vehicle to another vehicle but no arrest has been made so far in this case so far.
