New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Police have strongly reacted to the allegations levelled against them by Dr Nupur Talwar, mother of Arushi Talwar who was found murdered in her Noida house on May 16.

In an interview aired on CNN-IBN on Wednesday, she accused the UP Police of framing her husband Dr Rajesh Talwar and also demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder.

“They've picked up the softest target here. There was a lot of pressure from the top and the media to solve the murder. They were expected to answer in little time and that's what they have done, but what about the evidence? They have none yet. Now they can make up whatever they wish to because he is [Dr Rajesh] in their custody. Knowing them, expect them to come up with anything outrageous. Anything's possible with them,” she alleged.

She also said she was afraid for her husband’s safety while he’s in police custody. The UP Police had shifted Rajesh to an undisclosed location on Tuesday night for interrogation.

“He's been taken to a secret detention in the most bizarre manner. I don't know if he's there or not and whether he’s dead or alive. I don't know what they've done with him,” she said.

Soon after the interview was aired, the police issued a statement saying the statements given by Nupur Talwar and her lawyer in the case were completely baseless. They also added that Rajesh Talwar was healthy and in their custody.

“Nupur Talwar and the family’s lawyer’s statement on TV about Dr Rajesh are baseless. We have to complete our investigations and we are doing it,” the police reacted.

They also added that media cannot be the deciding factor and should not be the tool in a case of this nature.
