Noida: In a freak accident in Nodia near Delhi, a bus trying to park at a terminal ran over sleeping workers killing five and seriously injuring two.
The accident happened late on Saturday when an Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus was parking at the Noida bus terminal.
The injured have been taken to the district hospital. All of them were road construction workers from Madhya Pradesh and were sleeping on the ground at the bus terminal.
The driver of the bus did not see them sleeping as he parked the bus.
Three of those killed were from the same family.
Police have filed a complaint of attempt to murder and reckless driving against the driver who is now absconding.
The UP State Road Transport authorities have announced a compensation of Rs 50,000 for the next of the kin of the dead.
"We guarantee that we will give whatever compensation is due. If we get to know who are the legal heirs, then we will give them compensation," an official said.
