New Delhi: A year after saying Lord Ram didn't exist, the Central Government has now told the Supreme Court that the Sethusamudram was destroyed by Ram himself.

Encouraged by its victory in the trust vote, the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government is now going ahead with some controversial decisions.

And without delay it has expressed its eagerness in the SC to implement the Sethusamundarm project with a new logic that it was Lord Ram himself who actually destroyed the original structure after having built it centuries ago. The Government says that there's no such mythical bridge.

For the last few months now, a crucial partner of the UPA, the Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) has been putting pressure on the Government to go ahead with the project.

“We will go by what the Supreme Court orders,” M Karunanidhi, DMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, says.

The DMK's wishes will have to be fulfilled because of the loyaly to the UPA, which the party has shown during the trust vote.

So after having won the crucial floor test, it's now payback time. So Ram Setu can go the DMK way even if it means antagonising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"The PM to stay in power has sacrificed the faith of million. This is the PM's kickback to the DMK for staying in power," BJP spokesperson Rajeev Pratap Rudy says.

The BJP response is along expected lines. But Lal Krishna Advani's trust motion speech has shown that the saffron brigade is ready to grab anything remotely close to its Hindutva agenda whether it is the Amarnath shrine controversy or the decision to demolish the Ram Setu.

While the Kamb Ramayan in Tamil speaks of destruction of Ram Setu by Lord Rama himself but the Valmiki Ramayan is silent on it.

Now the problem for the SC is which Ramayan to believe.
