New Delhi: In Bali, at the he UN climate change conference, the negotiators are studying a compromise formula proposed by Indonesia, which shuns emission cuts for 2020 but asks developed countries to more than halve their emissions by 2050.

However, earlier, the EU and US were unable to reach an agreement on emission levels. The EU demanded that the final text include a specific commitment that industrialised nations should cut their emissions by 25-40% of 1990 levels by 2020. The US and Canada opposed mandatory cuts, arguing instead for national targets.

Nobel peace prize recipient and former US vice president, Al Gore has blamed the US for stalling talks at the Bali summit. “The US is responsible for obstructing progress here in Bali,” says Al Gore.
