New Delhi: Iceland is the coolest country in the world while the United State ranked among last couple of nations in the Global Peace Index.

The Index, compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit, ranked the United States 97th out of 140 countries.

This is apparently after the US came under strong international criticism for the invasion of Iraq. Also contributing to it was the prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib prison and detention of terrorism suspects at Guantanamo Bay.

The index considered 24 indicators of external and internal measures of peace, including UN deployments overseas, levels of violent crime, respect for human rights, the number of soldiers killed overseas and arms sales.
