Bhadwani (Madhya Pradesh): The people in Bhadwani district in Madhya Pradesh have come together to save their land, which they say will get washed away by water from the Sardar Sarovar Dam.

They are protesting against the proposed increase in the dam's height. "This is our Narmada and our village. We will fight for our right. We are not scared of the Government," says a local resident, Ram Kumar.

The government claims the situation is not grave as claimed by the activists.

"The rehabilitation has already been done. And it has been done for the 121 level. But as you can see, even at the 121 level, there is no submergence," says Collector, Bhadwani, Arun Tiwari.

The Narmada Bachao Aandolan, which is fighting for the rights of the people who will be displaced, says the government is raising the dam's height but not paying attention to rehabilitation.

"There is no rehabilitation site for the 26 villages, nothing is being done," says NBA Activist, Medha Patkar.

For the people who have come from the distant villages that dot the Narmada river, this rally is not a simple one. For them, it is a battle to salvage whatever they have struggled to build and saved for their future generations.
