Bangalore: Thanks to the impending elections in Karnataka, Bangalore's roads have been clogged with bumper-to-bumper traffic for the last one week.
With the date for filing of nominations nearing, thousands of party ticket aspirants are landing up at party offices in huge numbers, leading to traffic snarls.
Thousands of aspirants, their fans, supporters and sycophants burst crackers, organise spot protests and demand representation for every caste and sub-caste.
Such is situation even in the VIP area of Vidhan Soudha party that even politicians find it difficult to reach their offices.
Says a Bangalorean, “It should be avoided or banned. They cannot do this (rallies and delegation) in public place. Let them have separate places of their own.
Congress, in fact, is apologetic. KPCC president, Mallikarjuna Kharge says, “I feel sorry and apologise to public. At the same time, we're telling people not to bring delegations.”
More than 2,800 aspiring MLAs have applied for a Congress ticket, another 3,000 for a JD(S) ticket and over 2,000 for a BJP ticket. Hundreds accompany every aspirant to press his or her claim
“It’s election period. So naturally, candidates and their followers come in thousands. We can't prevent or for that purpose, we can't shift party office to a far-off place. It's inevitable,” says JDS president, YSV Dutta.
As vehicles wait for party leaders to make up their minds, the aam aadmi will just have to grin and bear it.
