After Dark by Haruki Murakami:

Though it doesn’t feel like one night, After Dark tracks its main characters from 11.56 pm one night to 06.52 am the next day. The book takes a couple of pages to drag you in, but it's worth a read. The characters are a very likeable — 19-year-old Mari and her new friends Takahashi and Kaoru.

A few strange tales of Mari's gorgeous sister Eri, and what goes on inside those infamous Love Hotels. Japanese author Haruki Murakami is tricky — there's no black and white. And he has this knack of hinting at deep dark terrible things and scary thoughts.

The title is not a joke. So it is recommend. The book should be read at night, ideally when one sleeps because of all the strange, dark thoughts. All things are possible in darkness, because of it's a tangible quality.

Haruki Murakami is not for everyone as he has a bit of an acquired taste. Ever since his debut as a writer in the '80s, there's no dispute on the popularity of his books like Norwegian Wood and Kafka on the Shore.

Last year, he came out with a collection of 25 short stories that really hit the spot as well. But After Dark clearly holds its own. It’s a style that doesn't seem to lose out in translation even if it did take three years to get the English version.

This fiction novel by publisher Harvill Secker/ Random House is priced at Rs 515. It’s 201 pages.

Fashionably rolled up:

To unite to rescue Planet Earth and save trees and to look nice while you do it, all that one needs is glitter, Swarovski and rolled-up paper. Transforming them into something unique, Vrinda Gokhale has taken recycling to an all-new level with tedious college notes and old telephone directories.

Be it chunky earrings, belts, neck-pieces or chokers, she rolls them up in what can be best described as ‘a-bohemian-hippy-goes-to-fancy-dress-party’ collection!

They are pretty and delicate, but keep them away from the rain. Located at AZA, Crescent Mall, in New Delhi, the prices range from Rs 100 to Rs 1,500.

Pritam makes Dhoom with new album:

There is no nasal debate over him as in the case of Himesh Reshamiya. His last soundtrack Life In A Metro and now Awarapan show you that sounds are filled with the current flavour of Bollywood musical experimentation.

Critics are starting to call 2007 a Pritam’s year. Melodic tune structures that move between guitars rifts, programmed synths and intense vocals, most of which come from Pakistani artists have all been re-structured by Pritam: departing from famous Pakistani bandsStrings and Junoon, artists like Annie and Rox3n, singing songs like Mahiya and Tera Mera Rishta

They show you the depth of an untapped breed of Pakistani artists as opposed to the now predictable sounds of the Jal camp. Indulge in Awarapan and be a awagaboud. This CD by SAREGAMA costs Rs 150.
