New Delhi: Amidst many views that Budget 2008- 09 signals earlier than scheduled General Elections, renowned industrialist and Rajya Sabha Member Rahul Bajaj on Monday asked the government to go in for early polls so that uncertainties could end and nation could move ahead with economic reforms.

"We are tired of waiting... We want elections in 2008 so that you can come back and lead the country," Bajaj said at a post-Budget interactive session with Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

Making a strong case for pursuing the Indo-US civil nuclear deal, Bajaj, an Independent member of the Upper House, said it would be in the nation's interest to go ahead with the agreement.

Though General Elections are scheduled to be held in April-May, 2009, the political circles are abuzz with rumours that the UPA Government, which has presented a 'please-all Budget', might go in for early polls.

Praising the minister for his Budget proposals, Bajaj said, "You have created a major problem for the Opposition... even the Opposition can't criticise it."

Concerned over the slowdown in consumer demand, Bajaj also asked Chidambaram not to sacrifice growth for the fear of inflation which is reasonably under control.
