What gave Mumbai TV producer's killers away

THE ENDS OF TRIANGLE: Grover’s family became suspicious when Marria said that he had left behind his mobile phone.
New Delhi: Kannada starlet Marria Susairaj and navy officer Jerome Matthew are behind bars, accused of killing TV producer Neeraj Grover.
But for more than a week after Grover’s disappearance, the two were not even suspects and Grover was merely presumed missing.
It would have stayed that way had it not been for some mistakes which led the Crime Branch to them.
Grover’s family became suspicious when Marria said that he had left behind his mobile phone. Early next morning, the building watchman saw Marria and Jerome with two large bags, an unusual sight.
He saw them leave in a friend’s car, which was not revealed to the police by Marria
When the police visited Marria, they found the walls freshly painted, odd for a newly rented house. She had also bought new curtains and furnishings.
While the police had all these clues, they could still prove nothing. That's when they took Marria under their questioning and she broke down.
“She broke down during interrogation and led us to the body in Manor,” says Joint CP, Crime Branch, Rakesh Maria.
The police found Grover’s charred remains, giving them a water-tight case. When he was brought in from Kochi, Jerome too confirmed Marria's story and said Grover was stabbed after a heated fight over the starlet.
Experts though, say that Marria too, can be charged with murder and not just abetment.
“She can be charged with murder too. It was her responsibility to report the murder, if not stop it,” says criminal lawyer Majid Memon.
