sathyameva-jayathe chinmoy, the solution to this lies in the consortium of TV channels constituting an autonomouscouncil of eminent men and women of public lfe as watch dog! It's the last thing for the govt to interfere in freedom of media!every one understands why?the media has become pro-active and things are getting hot for politicians and political masters!

Prakash What else you expect from Congress & Gandhi family. They should not foget that media and judiciary are the only hope for people.Better they dont try to wake up the sleeping giant of Indian psyche. 1976 was different whole new generation is in place. It would be better if congress and Gandhi family even does not dream about bringing back emergency days. The media protest need to be in strogest possible term.It seems VINAS KALE VIPRIT BUDDHI.What to say about spokspersons defense, he should pity himself.

sathyameva-jayathe chinmoy, it's not at all difficult to understand the necessity of this draconian bill! political masters and those sitting in parliament are naturally worried as the visual media has become pro-active ,of late, in educating the illeterates of this country !even their fist fighting and including their scandalous life is tracked by the media and telecast by one channel or the other!naturally, they feel suffocated and feel the heat is becoming un-bearable! and therefore this ...blah..blah...!

Keith Going by what's presented in the bill, its just a way to shield the corrupt people in the govt as the govt can gag any stories in the news channels about them. The press should be able to function without govt control as it acts as a counterbalance and keeps the govt in check. Also it keeps the people informed of news which the govt will try to hide from the public if the bill is passed in parliament. This bill will be real bad as a whole for democracy and the people of India. We should all unanimously reject this bill and make it known that the govt cannot destroy one of the pillars of our constitution.

Rasputin There should be some checks and balances for media. Media cannot take everything for granted in the name of freedom of expression and speach.

rasa Yes there should be a regulatory authority like OFCOM in UK. As of late indian media has become a farce dishing out silly news items ... Its reporting about sanjay dutt speaks volumes about how our media can stoop down to indecent levels... The only thing that was not covered about sanjay dutt is whether he had a good shit in the morning... I think provision should be included to arrest journalists who are responsible for infactual news also...

Karavadi Raghava Rao Media is the Fourth Estate.Media has the fundamental right of Right to freedom or Expression. But all rights have limitations. The commercial aspect and business is also important for media.Actually many news papers disappeared on account of financial losses. To quote one example the Late Andhra Kesari and leader of freedom movement T.prakasam lost much of his property which he earned as a great lawyer due to losses on his paper Swarajya (both in English). In those days our elders used to say that even THE HINDU took a back seat because of his powerful English. For another great man Late Kasinadhuni Nageswara Rao though his paper ran in losses his great medicine AMRUTANJAN(Headache Balm) covered its losses and earned huge profits. Those days have gone. now in these days of Business culture if one stands on principles he has to close his shop. But there should be decency and National interest. Some English News papers played a nasty and dirty role which gave moral courage to terrorists to perpetrate their acts.Gujarat rites are internationalized in magnified lenses. English media will have very least influence in the country. People who can understand English are limited. Though they read the News papers most of them will have their own confirmed opinions on any subject. But they can damage the reputation of the country internationally. What I mean to say is media itself should formulate its code and follow it.Too much importance to film stars and cricketers their personal lives are not public concern.Media also should not take sides of any party or individual. They have their own mouth pieces for their needs.

more Karthikeyan Somasundaram Dear Sagarika and IBM team

According to me the bill is absurd, and may kill the freedom of press to express. But in the debate , i felt Sagariga was bit harsh and often used strong language. I felt discussion could have been taken with little more open minds. I appreciate the efforts behind.

Arun You(media) need a regulator. Better control yourself or someone else have to take stick. If prefer the first way, before publishing content just check whether its really necessity to prime focus. Else keep the content with less priority.

I am sick of all news channels.
