I agree with Singhavi here. The TAMASHA of press (TV NEWS channels) is also required to have some limits. Just a look at the NEWS channels either English or Hindi for a day will tell the viewer that they need to be controlled. Self regulation does not work when only profit and the breaking news are the order of the day.

These were the same Congis & Lefties, who were dancing with joy, when Media was extremely hyperactive against the so called COMMUNAL BJP SENA RSS VHP. Now they want the media reined in. The same people were denouncing BJP SENA as Moral Police & Fascist etc etc ad nauseum. When Courts & Judges were extremely active in NDA regime these congis/lefties were happy about "JUDICIAL ACTIVISM". Now When courts started commenting on them & reprimanding for some real undemocratic & unconstitutional acts of the assembly speakers of congi/lefty ruled states, & also on some actions of the parliament speaker, the same "father figure" Somnaathda started calling it as "Judiciary encroaching on Legislature". It's frustrating to see these villains of democracy in the garb of heroes.

I was least surprised at the Government's proposed Broadcasting Services Regulatory Bill and Draft Content Code for the obvious reasons that I had my own apprehension and already expressed more than once that the turn of events which we are now witnessing are by and large identical to those which prevailed prior to the imposition of infamous Emergency during 1975 and I had also expressed that we do not have leaders of repute to lead a movement from the front against corruption, crime, dynastic rule, suppression of freedom of speech etc like Jaiprakash Narayan just before the imposition of infamous Emergency during 1975. The all powerful coterie of sycophants are now hell bent to project SONIA GANDHI as DURGA, RANI JHANSI, SONIA’S BIRTHDAY TO BE CELEBRATED AS FEMALE CHILD DAY and so on and the die-hard sycophants will come out one day with a slogan and blow the trumpet in the near future that SONIA is INDIA and INDIA is ITALY as we have more the likes of DK Barooah in the powerful coterie of sycophants. With 25% of our CORRUPT and CRIMINAL MPs, POLITICAL RASHTRAPATI and COMMITTED JUDICIARY-POLICE-INVESTIGATIE AGENCY the DOOMS DAY is not far away and lets us keep our fingers crossed. Hence forth there would be no more exposures relating to corruption, crime, Nandigrams and Singurs and all that we would be hearing is about the achievements of NEHRU-INDIRA-RAJIV-SONIA-PRIYANKA-RAHUL etc at regular intervals. Our Prime Minister would first attend the flag hoisting ceremony at 10 Janpath before unfurling the National Flag on the Ramparts of Delhi on Independence Day. The private broadcasters would be barred from seeking comments on their ARTICLES from its READERS. We all should be proud of being INDIANS with MAHATMA GANDHIAN VALUES and celebrate the SIXTY YEARS of our INDEPENDENCE once and for all.

there appears to be an undeclared emergency already.more the exposures, majority of which bring discredit to sonia and group, the government would try to curb the media?it is more than 30years since indira;s emergency and does the media still afraid and would crawl or stand against any such nmeasures?

I guess someone forgot to refresh the memory of the govt about the early part of the 20th century in Germany and Italy where rulers like Hitler and Mussolini had done the same thing and it was termed as fascism. But then again, for all we know, since Sonia Gandhi's father was an ardent fascist & a supporter of Mussolini, it shouldn't surprise us that the daughter's party is behaving in this manner (the apple doesn't fall far from the tree).
It's crazy that the govt thinks that when the editors who refused to even discuss the bill, it was undemocratic. They seem to have forgotten what democracy means. It means that if I feel something you're spewing manure, I can say so and also ask you to pull your head out of your rear end before we have further discussions, which is essentially what the editors told the govt,so congrats.
It's absurd to hear that for a sting operation, the media needs to take permission of the person they plan to conduct the sting operation on. What's the point of the sting if the 'point' is being blunted? It's like asking the teacher for the questions of the exam saying "we'll study for the exam, but you please give us the questions". Sagarika rightly said that the govt will be laughed at the world over; well, almost the world over since in countries like China, North Korea and some of the theocratic societies of the world, this is exactly what is done. So congratulations to the govt for bringing our democracy on par with the brutal regimes around the world. The only steps left are to suspend elections and bring in one party rule and switch back to communism and rename our country from the Democratic Republic of India to the Union of Indian Socialist Republics.
The only option left for media(& us) is for the media to call for citizens to vote out this govt in the next elections, and vote in any govt that promises to do away with this bill. A bit far-fetched, and a long shot, but it's worth a shot guys.Go for it.

I was watching face the nation yesterday with my family on the subject of this Gag Bill of the press. It was very absorbing but i found the moderator was too loud, shreiking, howling and screaming while addressing query to Mr.Abhishek Sanghvi, when he was so composed and rational. My 11 year old Son wasn't too impressed. We can put across our point of view but in a manner and method of decent and acceptable verbal communication.I wonder if you will take my point .........you are a good channel though

Friends, this is another "gift" of the congress led government to the citizens of the country for voting them to power. We have seen the various in-justice that is being carried out by this government like that of reservations, presidential elections, etc and not its the term for the media to suffer in this regard. No the government wants the media to be under its vigilence, so that their misdeeds are not exposed. They are trying to bring in the private News agencies under this law and make them like their obedient servants like the Doordarshan, which broadcasts only pro-government programs. In a democratic country and in the current era, where India is considered almost like a developed country, the press should have full freedom to express the truth and they should represent the public voice against the politicians and their dirty politics. Unlike other developed countries like the US and UK where the freedom for the press the topmost, its unfortunate to have a government like that of Manmohan singh's which is trying to curb the freedom and the voice of the press and media. So we need to protest against these policies of this government.

The moderator in the programme Smt.Sagarika Ghose does not asks the question rather shouts and takes major part of the time in the programme. The difference is conspicous between Smt.Nalini Singh and her. The questions asked by her become some sort of cliches in the course of the programme. there is no creativity and forget rephrasing the questions. This has been observed a lot of times. The news presenter tone has to be smooth and serene like that of Smt Nalini Singh or Sri Pranab Roy

By introducing this bill for consideration, the Congress seems to be playing with fire. However, this interview is also a perfect example of the arrogance that the Indian media has mustered over the years. Here, the media panel displayed the same undemocratic behavior while holding the discussion for which they condemn all leaders and politicians. Interestingly enough, nowhere was the need to have a self- imposed ethical judgment was emphasized, lest one comment. The logic of the panel appears incomplete and they give more of an impression of a fight amongst school kids - an instantaneous knee jerk reaction to the incomplete bill in consideration. Ms Sagarika Ghosh, it would have been better if as a host you had appeared unbiasedness to allow for a fair debate.

I have following comments: 1. What is the need of such regulation? What we want to achieve by this? 2. Taking permission before sting operation does not work - then it is no longer sting operation - surprise element is lost and as it happen with police raids - the persons being stinged would be prepared before hand. 3. Press is fourth and very strong pillar of democracy. 4. Many of our political leaders / bureaucrats have no restirction to promote their self interest and they can go to any level. Such a scenario need very strong and active press. 5. Do not bring emergency regulations in the name of national interest.
