CAT GOES ON THE WEB: The idea of going online is to stem fraud.
New Delhi: All those appearing for Common Admission Test (CAT) this year can look forward to doing away with paperwork as the tests could go online from as early as this year itself.
The idea of going online is to stem fraud. In 2003, the test was declared null and void after the exam paper was leaked, the first time in IIMs’ history.
The IIMs have conveyed their idea of going online to the Human Resources Development Ministry and reports say the ministry has given an in principle approval to the project.
IIMs plan to conduct the CAT exam at over 100 computerised exam centres across the country.
Earlier, the IIM-A decided to hike the fees for the Post Graduate programme for students joining in June 2008 by two-and-a-half times.
The fee for the first year has been increased from Rs 2.20 lakh to Rs 5.50 lakh while the students will have to pay Rs 6 lakh in the second year instead of Rs 2.40 lakh that they currently pay.
So, instead of Rs 4.60 lakh for the two-year programme students will now have to pay Rs 11.50 lakh in all.
