Murali Its high time govt look at all possible sources of energy to meet the demand. Why can't our govt seriously look at generating power from solar energy? Moreover it would be a ecofreindly option. I bet atleast during summer seasons we can generate some power from solar energy to meet our electricity needs. Any thoughts from learned readers of cnnibn ?

John J Kottoor Blaming the left is not the solution for the problem. They don't change or read our comments. There's deficit in the power reaching homes. But at production it's not that bad. In states like maharashtra, transmission losses are at 55%. Age old transmission lines and power thefts are the main reason. Makes stringent laws to put ppl who do power thefts in jail for long time. The center is trying to make electricity under it. But states don't budge. We have a system where center and states work in cordination equivalent to the mixture of chalk and cheese..

Gaurav It becomes our moral responsibility not to vote Left in the next elections. By scrapping the Nuclear deal, India has missed a great opportunity to be free of the power problem.

radhika srinivasan Why in the heavens don't you learn a thing or two from Gujarat which has fixed its problems of both electricity and water in a phenomenally short time frame...a matter of ego for the politicians?!

subh I think the problem lies with us. "WE" have been doing electricity threft for almost 2 decades. Look at some of the residential places in south delhi you can find rampant threft. Also, more and more districts need to be moved under the umbrella of private sector, where the cost of electricity and continous supply will be passed on to the consumer. The blatant abuse of electricity by the politicians in there homes need to be curtailed. Respective goverments on their part could encourage alternative production of electricity from the corporate houses.

Critical Hail CPM!! Indians should thank the communists. By opposing the Nuclear deal, they have made sure that the power situation in India remains the same for decades to come. After all, shouldn't the people of India get used to heat by now?? All communists are used to it.

Puneet Who is to be blamed for this? Do we actually have a deficit of power or its been created by our govt. owned power companies. I am from Noida and we have atlease 15 power cuts everyday and there is no power supple from
11 pm - 2 am. Due to frequent power cuts inverter also doesn't charge properly and goes off in the night. Is there anyone who can look into the matter. Our ministers are busy in clearing the Women bill, is there any intelligent minister who can think about basic aminities. PLEASE HELP US

rajendra jain Reason why we need more nuclear power plants. for more nuclear power plants to come-up in india, whether Karat brigade likes it or not, we need western (nuclear supplier group)support. people should wake up to reality and discard all parties who put a spokes on the indo-us nuclear deal.
