DrSShankarSingh We need much more tougher laws than POTA. Terrorism is a special situation and needs to be handled accordingly. No law an prevent crime for happening. We have IPC but still theft, murder, cheating, corruption do take place. The laws all over the world have not eliminated the crime. This does not mean we do away with police, judiciary and criminal justice system. The law has to be such that it creates fear in the mind of the criminal that he will not be able to escape the consequence of his crime and he will be speedily broght to justice. In the new law against terrorism, the provision should be made that the criminal if found guilty, should speedily receive stringent punishment within a shortest possible time frame. He will not be able to escape after taking life of innocent citizens. This will instil fear in the mind of all planning crime against humanity. The need for such a law is definitely there.

He-Man From the chat, I can straight forward conclude that it is require to have a tough stand on terrorist and other inhuman activities. To deal with that we need to have strong leadership and law. We have two areas to look for politicians and law. This is also a well accepted fact that we dont have strong leadership and they dont look beyond their nose. So the remain and last area which can be revived is to have stronger law.
Just to recall the Supreme Court of India judgment on Sep. 22, 2006 (correct me for the date) to reform the existing criminal justice system to establish better rule of law in the country. This is only implemented by few states in North-east states of India. One of the recommendations is # To set up a national security commission at the Centre and a state security commission at states.
If the Supreme Court judgment is implemented then atleast we move ahead to curb such activities. But, implementation of Supreme Court judgment will make politicians to loose hold on the police which they are exercising. The Supreme Court has given the due time to center as well as states to implement the order till December 31, 2007. But so far we havent seen any Govt. in state and well as center who have implemented the Supreme Court judgment. Until and unless we reform our existing criminal justice system as per recommended by Supreme Court we cant curb such activities and like politician we too start playing blame game. :)
