It's for such reasons like this where World's 2nd largest producer of sugar cane (Brazil) moves ahead of World's largest producer of sugarcane (India) in taking poilicy decisions that serve both the needs of cheap mass transportation and help improving sugarcane farmers life all with a promise for a better environment (Ethanol is a "Green Fuel). Only today Indian company has been awareded to build a large Ethanol Plant in Europe... Only if our leaders and Agricultural Minister would have been a little more pro-active and visitied Brazil instead of involving himself too much on cricket...

At least give her / govt credit for bringing the prices of fuel down.
Did we have any price reduction during NDA or previous regimes? Why do you take that only because the elections are near that prices have fallen? think beyond prejudices and party affiliations.
Is it good for you or not -- the price reduction? Have a honest opinion instead of blinded by the communal opposition in this country.

While the international price is more than just more than 65$ the petrol rates increased by 4 Rs. Current price levels are between 57-58. They reduced only 2 Rs.
Could somebody explain this?
Also the price was hiked earlier suddenly while the oil prices are going up. But Oil price are in this levels (57 -59 $) for nearly 2 months.

These are simply pre-election and votebank politics strategy. Sales Tax & Excise Duties on petroproducts need to be drastically reduced first. But who will bell the cat and when? Comparison with the per barrel dollar rate is totally misleading. Actual costs of production are much much lower. Toplevel technocrats and chartered accountants of the oil industry can only produce petroproducts and submit suggestion reports to the Ministry but have no freedom in regulating the petro price structure. on purely commercial/economic considerations. Selection of oil companies chairmen is made on obvious extraneous parameters/considerations also.. Only one ONGC toplevel technocrat-cum-chairman S.Raha had the guts to call a spade and even threatened to resign in the company annual GBM. Mani Shankar Aiyar was the Petroleum Minister then. But then did even Raha had the courage to do so when he was a senior manager, chief manager in an oil company? Had he done so, he would have never become a director first. much less CMD subsequently of the ONGC. All these expediency games cholchay, cholbay in our country. Chief Election Commissioner also appears to be partisanly silent & slow in certain matters. Raha has meanwhile become a daily's columnist and one hopes he will come out with his candid articles/views on petropricings, energy security including that of petroleum, petroleum adulterations which cost the life of the bold IOC officer Manjunath etc. He has ringside knowledge of the goins-on in the Marketing Wing of IOC where Manjunath worked.

While feeling relieved at the drop in prices of petrol and diesel one cannot help laughing at the one-upmanship politics of the whole thing. The drop in prices has been solely credited to the "Almighty" Madame Sonia Gandhi, which is going to anger the pseudo leftists aka Communists because anything good should go tho their credit only. The communists are going to feel cheated and will now try to find new ways to needle the UPA government and thus stay in the news !!!
Whereas the fact is that with a steep fall in international prices, the reduction in Indian prices should have been much much more - only that we are paying for the inefficiency of the Oil PSU's.

Mark my words, within no time after all elections, Congress govt. will raise pricess again and this time by 5 to 10 Rs. Sonia thinks that common man is a fool. God save India.
( Posted: Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at 14:40 )
What do u think about yourself ? All are fools. Right..?
Prices going up - Sonia is responsible. Prices going down - Sonia is treating all as fools.
I pity your thinking. Try to think beyond the RSS way.

At least the Indian communist socialists are fools to the core!

just for votes she is playing with this drama.

Did she inform you that price rise will be after UP elections. Think of it as a good gesture instead of criticising Sonia and govt always !!!
