The stand of the Government of India on the Tibet issue is reflected in the documents signed/issues between India and China. The Joint declaration issued on November 21, 2006 during the visit of the Chinese President to India mentions: The Indian side reiterates that it has recognized the Tibet Autonomous Region as part of the territory of China, and that it does not allow Tibetans to engage in any anti-China political activities in India". Similar formulations are contained in other India-China documents such as the Declaration on Principles for relations and Comprehensive Cooperation signed between the two countries on June 23, 2003 and Joint Statement of April 11, 2005.

After displacing the entire local Dharamsala population and now saying it is there for or their own good to be with China, dosnt really go down well.It seems like avery ambivalent stement.Sometimes I really suspect the real motive and if this pilferation of tibetan poulation into India might not be in the best interests of internal security of India. Its high time we send tibetans back to their own country,India is not a refugee camp , where people just come and go at the cost of our local poulation.

It is,ofcourse, a very good interview. The Dalai lama is more known for as a spritual teacher than a political leader.Mr karan thapar should have asked some question related to sprituality, peace and compassion which can give some vital idias to suffering world.

Am a Tibetan and i deeply regard His holiness as a spiritual Guru, with immense knowledge higher then a mere individual. Well! about the exclusive interview of His Holiness conducted by Mr.Karan Thapar was in a way a mind opener to my ambivalent attitude towards tibetan issue. Am really keeping on the lines said by His Holiness that" He is not seeking an independent Tibet" rather a Tibet with an autonomous govt.Everything needed to be done is for the present, not to touch the past. I hope the words of wisdom and spirituality touch every true Tibetan and also build an understanding of the right approach. Thank you, Karma (student)

It is interesting to see so many indian are interested in this topics. For us, china should not care about what Dalai said, since he is very old, after he dies, tibetan outside of china has less influence and powerful. Time is good for us. Nice to see it ...

Now Dalai lama plays with heart of Indian people. The right of saying these words against India in India hapeens only in India .He eats Indian food and talk in the favour of china. If he says any word against china in china he knows his positon. I feel ashamed on him that how he forget the war b/w India and china in which a lot of land is aquired by china . I think he should say sorry for his words.

No point in refusing to accept reality. Dalai Lama's independent ibet is a dream shattered completely. Largely due to lack of requisit support of Indian State. It was such an insignificant thing for the rest of the world they never bothered whether Tibet even exist Independent or as part of China. Best way is to talk of autonomeous Tibet with some kind of freedom to them to preach their own religion and also to have friendly cultural exchanges with their Indian friends.

Dalai Lama's independent ibet is a dream shattered completely by China, however, he can turn to India, why not ask a piece of land from India and independent in indian territory. He has his own government, parliament and prime minister...etc, the only lack is a piece of land which India should give him. just like Vatican independent from Italy. India should follow Vatican example.
