Test Why do u people blame caste system alone? (I accept it plays a part) If you look at the statement given by one lady she clearly says that my husband gambles & drinks when he himself do not have pity on his wife doing this job how can we expect a third person to feel pity. First of all that should be set right. Agreed in village they are given no job but if they are feed up let them migrate nobody stops them to do so. Do n't tell me in cities also they will be discriminated. It is time the govt bans this dry toilet completely. Now there comes the question if she goes for another job also will her husband continues it? Back to square ofcourse she will be the dignity. Unless people change themselves no govt/organization can do any wonders. Let the mentality of people change and do not blame religion alone.

Jay What a shame. How we are going to be developed country and we want to move ahead in the world. I guess it will take another 300 years. The Learned men are to blame who introduced the cast system. They did not spread the knowledge and kept for their own selfish interest

J.N. Manokaran India aspires to be superpower when millions in the name of caste are oppressed, exploited, suppressed and coerced into doing inhuman jobs and exist in sub human conditions. Without basic education it is not possible to uplift them. Then the schools do not allow these children to enter the premises, which is mostly have teachers from upper castes. One teacher purified the class with cow urine and few children beloinging to Dalit community by sprinkling cow urine. Caste is a curse on India. Reservation offers some hope. Beyond that there is a need for change in mindset, people centred government (not power centred government), leaders with vision for social transformation (not just super power vision)and people movement bringing change.

more Sangeetha It was indeed disgusting to read this article.I really feel pity on these people.Just because you have been born into a particular caste, it doesnt mean that you have to clean the waste of others.Shame on those people who still believe that people born into a caste are supposed to do these kinda menial jobs.

I also feel the administration responsible for this. The Government should immediately step into action. But what I feel is if the leaders of a state belong to upper castes they wil be the least bothered about the welfare of the downtrodden.Otherwise the simple solution of building wet toilets would have come to the scenario by now after 60 years of independence. No wonder, beacuse this is a nation where a cow was given more importance than the lives of four downtrodden men.

Even the elites who spend so much much on their birthdays and other functions or to raise funds for charity shows, why dont you step in to do something for them who are not even given the right to raise their voice.

Administration is pathetic in India. That is what I would say. The schools should teach students on right to equality, dignity and welfare to all. This would be a preliminary step. Also the Government itself should make sure that that all are treated equally, downtrodden people are given respectable jobs, so that every one lives with dignity. As for cleaning is concerned,it would be better if public wet toilets are constructed in the villages with basic cleaning facilities for people.Come on yaar, they are also human beings like any of us.When we close our nose passing through stench,is it not pity that these people have to clean it themselves.

Government, step in immediately.Do the needed. And people, treat everyone equally.Let our future generations march ahead to teh welfare of the nation.

Rasputin I saw some journalism in IBN for the first time. These are the real issues which should be addressed by the media.

One of Mr MK Gandhi’s dreams was to end the manual scaventure.

d. mohan good job indeed and welcome departure from the usual tv stuff obsessed with trps. i think highlighting such human interest stories are part of the "nation building" by the media dr. kalam is talking about..... keep it up.

more Ahmad No doubt we need to have someone to do these menial tasks, but the stigma carried by this can simply go away if the government makes it mandatory for them to use some basic technology.Say gloves when they are handling the refuse and then providing them with decent carts - mechanised the better, so that this comes under the domain of Health and Safety than Unskilled labour.I have seen this happen in the west , why can India not.

jagriti This is really very disgusting that some people are blaming caste system for every bad thing that happens with the poor people. I think its administration that's responsible for this type of work. If there will be proper drainge system in the madya pradesh villages or whereever needed then there will be no need of these type of work and lower caste people donot need to carry the dry waste of others. As said in the news that the upper caste people donot eat with them, i believe that the reason being, as we know that the human waste contains bacteria as these people work with the human waste all time and the probability that they carry thoses dangerous bacterias is quite high. its one of the reason that other persons who are not doing the same job donot like to share things with them not because of that they are born in lower caste and they are forced to do so.
If they will have good education, no body will stop them having good jobs and status in the society.
I donot understand why its only the woman who are supposed to do the job. WHY NOT MEN WHO ARE ONLY DRINKING AND GAMBLING THE WHOLE DAY. BIG SHAME ON THEM .

Vasudha Khalamji,
Did u read this or hear about this? U dont need to be people's president to fix this. u are people's man / hero. Please pave way for this.

Human right's commision, and other government and private women organisations - what is happening?? I couldnt't tolerate to even read this. They are our sisters and brotheres and we cant let them go away like this.

To all those using humans to take away their wates - For a change, can u go clean saradha's or others house? This act of using humans is equal to being dishonest to GOD himself.
