I am appalled at the attitudes of the other commenters (and ostensibly the insinuation of this article). They act as if it is a trade-off between dogs and humans. Please try to think more sensibly. Maneka Gandhi's efforts in the realm of animal welfare have NOTHING TO DO with the deplorable conditions at this institution.

The fact that dogs are allowed to occupy vacant beds has no bearing on how poorly the patients are treated. Honestly, you sound like the typical American who faults India for (supposedly) fattening the cows at the expense of starving humans. I say again: there is NO correlation.

Long Live Maneka Gandhi ! The true saviour of STRAY DOGS. She must be terribly happy to hear and possibly see the stray dogs resting and relaxing on Hospital beds.
It would be a noble cause if she takes some time out to NURSE them. It would be a matter of generosity to nurse the ill treated humans even.Despite the love for animals she will be killing two birds with one stone.

We talk about bringing nation at par with other developed countries. Definitely we have made enormous progress in various sectors but it is frustrating to hear such a mess as you have described. We wish if politicians who have been given such an opportunity to govern the nation bring sea change in social sectors and forget about flinching the nation.

we must be the only country in the world where our great Animal lovers have an uppe hand in protecting the stray dogs eventhough, lakhs of people suffer because of dog bite. Sterilization only helps in halting the growth of the stray dog population marginally. One cannot stop the particular dog from biting people after sterilization.
Time has come to take the issue seriously and start elimination of street dogs scientifically.
